Government Committee supported the draft order on the establishment of the Defense Technology Agency

Оn September 30, at a regular meeting, the Government Committee on National Security and Defense, Strategic Industries and Infrastructure supported the draft Government’s decree “On the Establishment of a State Institution “Defense Technology Agency”.

“In the future – the decision of the Government, a number of organizational and regulatory steps, and a new specialized state institution will appear in Ukraine,” said Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleg Uruskyi.

According to the Minister of Strategic Industries, the Defense Technology Agency will facilitate increasing the efficiency of research activities to protect the interests of the state defense industry, as well as provide additional opportunities for defense sector companies aimed to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other components of the security and defense sector in state-of-the-art weaponry, military and specialized equipment.

“It will not be a cumbersome and slow institution. It will certainly include specialists in the sector, who will actively cooperate with leading domestic scientific institutions and organizations, expert and analytical structures, as well as enterprises of various forms of ownership in the context of creation and implementation in Ukraine of modern technological solutions,” Oleg Uruskyi explained.

The top official considers it important that the expected amount of expenditures for the establishment and maintenance of the Agency is insignificant and will average UAH 30 million per year.

“One of the tools in the work of the Defense Technology Agency will be the State Targeted Defense Program for the implementation of research and development projects in the interests of the security and defense sector of Ukraine. A draft order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the approval of the Concept of the Program has been developed by the Ministry of Strategic Industries,” added the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine.
