The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra has been officially registered as a monastery within the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
Yevstratii Zoria, a bishop of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and a Holy Synod spokesperson, announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
“The charter of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (men’s monastery) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) was registered on December 1, 2022. Information about this legal entity as part of the Local Church was entered into the Unified State Register (45081205) on December 2,” he said.
The Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine in May formed within its membership the religious organization “Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (men’s monastery)” and instructed Metropolitan Epiphanius to ask the government to hand over one of the churches of the Upper Lavra and some of its premises for use by the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
