MP: Ukraine needs 300-400 automated systems to clear all farmland of mines

Ukraine needs at least 300-400 automated demining complexes to clear all agricultural land in at least two seasons.

Dmytro Solomchuk, a member of the Verkhovna Rada committee on agrarian and land policy stated this at Ukraine Media Center – Ukrinform.

“We still have a lot of land to clear in Borodyanka and Hostomel (Kyiv region), not to mention Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions. Therefore, to clear all agricultural land in at least two seasons, we need a minimum of 300-400 automated demining complexes in Ukraine. Then this process will go faster,” he said.

Solomchuk noted that automated demining systems are currently used mainly in the southern and eastern regions. At the same time, Ukraine uses “manual” demining with detectors, but this is a very slow and dangerous process.

According to the MP, Ukraine expects aid from Western partners in demining, in particular in providing the necessary technical means.
