UNESCO held a event for young researchers, who presented their studies, focused on the mental health of Ukrainian student youth

At the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, students, teachers, researchers, youth leaders and experts from different cities of Ukraine gathered to hear the results of youth research together and develop recommendations for policies, universities and communities.

Five student teams from Kyiv and Kharkiv presented their projects on the following topics:

The impact of war on the sense of professional self-realization of students of an art institution (Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts)

Stress factors affecting the mental health of an individual during wartime in Ukraine (Dragomanov Ukrainian State University)

Media consumption during wartime and its impact on the psychological well-being of student youth (National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”)

Crisis environment as a challenge and opportunity: research on the mental health of students during wartime (International scientific and Technical University named after academician Yury Bugai)

Linguistic mechanisms of creating disinformation: the psychological impact of fake news on the community (National Technical University of Ukraine“ Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”)

After the presentations, the participants joined an interactive session: shared ideas for new research, formulated requests to higher education administrations and developed joint solutions to support the mental health of youth.

‘Youth as Researchers’ is an international initiative implemented by UNESCO in cooperation with UNESCO Chairs network, which trains young people to research the problems of their communities. The program does not prepare scientists, but gives young people the tools for active civic action and influence on change.
