Over 2,600 educational institutions damaged in Ukraine since war started

Over 2,600 educational institutions have been damaged and 406 destroyed completely since the Russian full-scale invasion started. The relevant statement was made by Education and Science First Deputy Minister Andrii Vitrenko during a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We have suffered significant educational infrastructure losses that are being estimated. Over 2,600 educational institutions were damaged and 406 destroyed completely,” Vitrenko told.According to the Ukrainian Education and Science Ministry, a total of 12,902 schools are now operating within the Ukrainian-controlled territory.

A total of 516,000 school-aged children are staying beyond the territory of Ukraine. Earlier, this figure used to be 620,000.

“We are glad that more than 100,000 children have already returned to Ukraine and Ukraine’s national educational system,” Vitrenko noted, adding that about 95,000 school-aged children are remaining within the temporarily occupied areas.

Vitrenko also mentioned that Ukraine is the only country to not have halted the educational process amid active hostilities. Now, a total of 4,967 schools in Ukraine are operating in online mode.
