On March 20, 2024, the medal «For our and your freedom» for outstanding services to the Ukrainian people was awarded to the friends of Ukraine from Latvia and volunteers from Azerbaijan. The event took place in the Zachariewicz Hall (room 214) in the main building of Lviv Polytechnic.
Professor Yurii Bobalo, Rector of the University, Bohdan Kunda, Head of the public union «Ukrainian People’s Power», Mykhailo Huk, Vice Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria in Lviv, Oleksandr Sopov, the Honored Industry Worker of Ukraine, Director of the Orden Production and Creative Association, Lieutenant General Pavlo Tkachuk, Head of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy, Tymur Hulamov, commander of the 2nd Artillery Battery of the 23rd Separate Special Purpose Battalion of the Separate Presidential Brigade Military Unit A4438, Nataliia Diadiushko, Head of the Esculab Charitable Foundation, volunteers Oleh Polulikh and Ihor Marych attended the ceremony.
The event began with a minute of silence in memory of all defenders who died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
– Today’s war is a struggle for the independence of Ukraine, for the preservation of Ukrainian identity and values that are common to all free peoples of Europe. Our University also makes its contribution to this struggle: the employees and graduates of Lviv Polytechnic protect us at the front line risking their lives. And here, in the University, students and volunteers hold charity events, weave camouflage nets; scientists develop hydrogel dressings that save lives of our defenders and civilians. It is our joint work that brings victory closer every day. Friends of Ukraine, who we are honoring today, are also contributing a lot to our victory, said Andrii Pavlyshyn, Head of the Lviv Polytechnic Promotion Center.
The Rector of Lviv Polytechnic, Professor Yuriy Bobalo, addressed the guests with a welcome speech:
– Today’s event is special because a community of true patriots, who are united by one goal – the victory of Ukraine, gathered here, in Lviv Polytechnic. We know from history that Russia has always been an aggressor country that started wars. It is trying to establish its rule over all peoples. So we have to defend our freedom and independence. And I want to express my gratitude to everyone who is helping and doing everything so that peace will reign in our country. Together we will win! Glory to Ukraine!
- The White Cross «HONOR ET GLORIA» was awarded to Egils Helmanis, Mayor of Ogre, Latvia, Dana Barbale Deputy Executive Director of Ogre, Latvia, Arnis Rukmanis, volunteer, citizen of Latvia, and to Kristers Muhins, volunteer, citizen of Latvia.
- The medal «For our and your freedom» was awarded to Mammadov Elman Elmir Ogly, soldier of the 23rd special battalion of the presidential brigade military unit A 4438, and to Mammadov Ikhtiyar Elmir Ogly, soldier of the 23rd special battalion of the presidential brigade military unit A 4438.
- People’s badge of honor «Cross of Civil Merit» was awarded to Lviv Polytechnic National University, Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy and the Esculab Charitable Foundation.
