Where do we see Ukraine in 10–15 years? The answer to this question shapes our priorities today. We aspire to become a full member of the European Union — a country that contributes meaningfully to Europe’s shared development. To reach this new level of economic dynamism, we will require significant resources, primarily through active investment.
This was the focus of the State and Business Forum on June 27, organized by the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, and UNDP Ukraine, with support from the Government of Switzerland. The Aspen Institute Kyiv hosted an Aspen Dialogue on “Resources for Ukraine’s Recovery,” where leaders from business, government, and international organizations discussed how to secure the resources needed for the country’sreconstruction.
According to the Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment, Ukraine’s recovery over the next decade will require approximately $524 billion. The key challenge lies in identifying concrete ways to attract the necessary resources. Various proposals were discussed — from economic liberalization to more substantial support for local businesses, which will likely remain the primary source of investment for at least the next 2–3 years. Participants agreed that now is a unique window of opportunity for transformation, but emphasized that these changes must be responsible, well-balanced, and strategically grounded.
The Aspen Institute Kyiv will continue to support the creation of platforms for meaningful partnerships and the joint pursuit of effective solutions for Ukraine’s future.
The event was organized as part of the Swiss-Ukrainian project “Strengthening Member Business Associations of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Ukraine,” implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, with support from the Government of Switzerland.
