The Verkhovna Rada registered the draft law “On protection against ionizing radiation”

The Verkhovna Rada registered draft law No. 8223 “On amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding the protection of humans from the impact of ionizing radiation”. The document is aimed at implementing into the legislation of Ukraine the standards of human protection against the effects of ionizing radiation in accordance with European norms, informs representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk on Telegram.

He said that the draft law proposes to clarify and specify the powers of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, central executive bodies, local executive bodies, and the National Commission for Radiation Protection of the Population of Ukraine. Also, the document will introduce three situations of exposure (planned, existing and emergency) and establish the main dose limits of effective and equivalent dose for personnel and the population.

Melnychuk noted that the document is designed to introduce limit doses in situations of planned exposure for personnel and the population and reference levels for situations of existing and emergency exposure. And also introduce reference levels of the average annual concentration of radon activity in the air of premises for the permanent stay of people, at workplaces. In addition, the draft law proposes to determine the main measures for the justification and optimization of protection and safety measures in the case of medical radiation, etc.
