The European Commission can help Ukraine in the implementation of the emission register

The European Commission is considering the possibility of financing expert assistance for the effective implementation of the Protocol on Emission Registers and the Transfer of Pollutants to the Aarhus Convention (ERTP) for Ukraine. This was stated by EC representatives during the Ninth Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine reports on Facebook. The press service said that representatives of 41 countries, the European Commission, the United Nations and others took part in the event.

They discussed: the state of ratification of the ERTP Protocol; compliance and reporting mechanisms; the work program for 2022-2025, including financial issues, development of the Protocol, national achievements, needs and tasks in the field of capacity building. The report noted that international experts are currently working on amending the 2006 ERTP Regulation to improve and align it with the reporting requirements of the Industrial Pollution Directive 2010/75. During the event, representatives of the Ukrainian delegation talked about the approval of the Law on National ERTP in Ukraine and about further plans for its implementation.

“Negotiations were held with representatives of the EU, the UN, the European Commission, Great Britain, Ireland, Spain, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Moldova, and Sweden regarding further bilateral cooperation in the development of the National Register,” the message emphasized.
